Anvaya Cove in Morong Bataan : Keeping the Living Seas Alive
Since its inception, Anvaya Cove has been grounded on the concept of sustainability. With its topography, coastline and abundant flora and fauna, the locale presented many opportunities for Ayala Land Premier to develop a community established on the idea of balance between the built and environment and the rich natural landscapes and seascapes.
Environmental sensitivity was key in coming up with a workable and sustainable strategy. Detailed engineering studies helped in creating roads that are shaped by natural topography and in selecting living areas that minimized the need for earth-moving which could have had long-term effects on the environment. Careful consideration of spaces and their functions in relation to the endemic flora and fauna within the site allowed the team to envision nature camps which provide a tangible link between Anvaya’s natural surroundings and the families who visit, stay and live within the grounds.
An important aspect of sustainability is being able to create plans that thrive and endure in the long run. This forward-thinking vision is necessary to strike a balance between a green built environment and the natural resources that surround it.
With the support of Anvaya Cove’s lot owners, residents and club members, Ayala Land is able to make this vision real. Through the creation of AEFI (Anvaya Environmental Foundation, Inc.), Anvaya Cove’s commitment to sustainability and a healthy environment is realized—not just within Anvaya Cove but also within its neighboring communities as well.
AEFI’s maiden project aims to further enrich the already diverse marine life around Anvaya Cove’s coast through a giant clam seeding event slated for December 4 and 5, 2009. The organization aims to re-propagate the virtually extinct Tridacna Gigas or giant clams, right within Anvaya’s shores. The project aspires to “reforest” the waters by reinvigorating the already existing marine life that populates it, thereby continuing and reinforcing sustainability.
The two-day event involves activities for the entire family—story telling, micro-site selection, snorkeling clinics, games and activities, and the clam seeding itself. The project adds yet another dimension to the diversity that exists within Anvaya Cove’s borders and within the entire province of Bataan as well.
‘Reeforestation’ may seem like an immense concept—a huge hurdle that has to be overcome in an effort to go green and grow into a fully sustainable community. But, as in Anvaya Cove, a little initiative from people across sectors can get the job done. With organizations that constantly come up with new and innovative ideas, companies that are willing to take their corporate social responsibility one step further, and families who are eager to learn, to educate, and to participate, keeping the living seas alive is possible.
